(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) URUGUAYAN PRESIDENT JOSE MUJICA SAYING: "In Latin America? What's worked best in U.S. policy (in Latin America) is when it (the United States) doesn't interfere." (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) URUGUAYAN PRESIDENT JOSE MUJICA SAYING: "We've made a very big investment in energy and power. So between the government and the private sector, we have invested $7 billion dollars. We have wind energy, we have gas energy, because we are betting on this country that will continue to grow." PRESIDENT JOSE MUJICA TAKING QUESTION AT WORLD BANK EVENT "DIALOGO SIN CORBATA" (TIELESS DIALOGUE) (SOUNDBITE) (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) URUGUAYAN PRESIDENT JOSE MUJICA SAYING: "And for those who want to invest, and this is a small hint -- we have open doors to go into Brazil. And it is already clear to us, it is easier to sell inside of Brazil by working in Uruguay, that working in the United States." AUDIENCE LISTENING (SOUNDBITE) (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) URUGUAYAN PRESIDENT JOSE MUJICA SAYING: "We have to also fight for our own survival. That means that we have to fight for our independence. And to fight for our economic, political, and social independence, means to be wise in the way we manage the interdependence. We have to build it with the patience and the work of every day. And that's why we're here. That's why we went to Germany, that's why we went to Sweden, that's why we went to China, and that's why we're going to Antarctica." PANELISTS SEATED, JOKING AT WORLD BANK EVENT "DIALOGO SIN CORBATA" (TIELESS DIALOGUE) (SOUNDBITE) (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) URUGUAYAN PRESIDENT JOSE MUJICA SAYING: "We're not going to fight with our neighbors. But we will always have a foot outside. And we'll be looking everywhere. While, at the same time, now, we are discussing an agreement with Europe. It's only been fifteen, twenty years that we've been negotiating with Europe, that's about it. But, in order to bring oranges into this market we've been fighting for eight, ten years... Now we're selling oranges in the U.S. market. So, say, perhaps ten years, or maybe more, I will be criticized, because people will say 'you're leftist, you're with imperialism' -- no, brother. I'm just trying to sell some more beef over here than these other products, what do you want from me? Because people have to pay pay their utilities, they have to work. And politics, from the beginning, is intended for people to live a better life." WIDE OF AUDIENCE LISTENING AND PANELISTS AT WORLD BANK EVENT "DIALOGO SIN CORBATA" (TIELESS DIALOGUE)
