- Story Text: A light aircraft pulling a black banner reading "Hollande Resignation" flew over the memorial in the Notre-Dame de Lorette cemetery on Tuesday (November 11), just hours before French President Francois Hollande's arrival at the memorial.
The French leader was set to unveil a giant new war memorial engraved with the names of the 580,000 men who lost their lives in northern France during the First World War, organised irrespective of nationality or rank in a gesture of reconciliation.
The plane was escorteded away from the aerial zone above the memorial by a helicopter shortly after it flew over the area.
David van Hemelryck, who leads an organisation called "Hollande Resignation" and has been very active during the protests against gay marriage in 2012 and 2013 claimed on his Twitter account immediately after the event that he was responsible for the flight.
