- Story Text: Serbian police and Yugoslav army forces shelled ethnic
Albanian villages in hills north of Pristina on Tuesday,
driving civilians and separatist guerrillas from the area.
KLA commandos withdrew from their frontline
headquarters near the village of Dubovce north of Pristina and
headed north on Tuesday (March 9).
Moments later two Serbian rockets slammed into the brigade
headquarters, sending debris flying but causing no injuries.
The sound of near continuous firing was audible to the east,
including tank and machine-gun fire.Refugees from the
fighting headed for the nearby village of Becic.
Serbian police and Yugoslav army forces continued to shell
ethnic Albanian villages in hills north of Pristina, driving
civilians and separatist guerrillas from the area.
To the south of Becic, near the border with Macedonia,
thousands of people forced from their homes by fighting are
trapped in the hills by Yugoslav army troops who are refusing
to allow aid workers to go to their assistance.
The UNHCR estimates that around 4,000 people are trapped in
the area under seige.
