- Story Text: Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov said on Tuesday (February 24) that SEECP countries had signed a joint 10-point resolution "which addresses the fight against terrorism in all its forms" after a meeting in Tirana.
Foreign affairs ministers and other high representatives of the South-East European Cooperation Process countries signed the resolution in the Albanian capital condemning extremism, with particular reference to Islamic State and expanding activities in southern Europe.
"Today we have adopted a very, very important joint statement which addresses the fight against terrorism in all its forms, but particularly focuses on ISIL and the threat which comes from ISIL," Mitov said at a news conference after the meeting.
"If we want to be a truly integrated region, if we want to be responsible, if we want to show that we can work together in order to tackle all the challenges which are ahead of us, especially the challenges in terms of security and geopolitical challenges, we need to concentrate on this extremely worrisome issue, which is the fight against foreign fighters, the fight against the spread of terrorism," he added.
The meeting also emphasised the group's support for the promotion of tolerance and religious coexistence, as one of the fundamental freedoms and human rights.
SEECP was launched in 1996 in Bulgaria in order to strengthen regional cooperation and the creation of a climate of trust, good neighbourliness and stability.
Member states of the SEECP are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Montenegro, Kosovo, Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
