- Story Text: Fierce fighting has continued between Serbian forces and Albanian separatists in Kosovo.
The Serbs have continued to shell Albanian villages in Kosovo despite assurances from Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic that the violence would stop.
The Serb attacks on Monday (August 3) were concentrated in the Drenica region.Shelling could be heard and smoke could be seen rising in the village of Morina.
Fighting intensified in the region on Sunday as Serb forces attacked Drenica and Djakovica, leaving at least 10 people dead.Eight Albanians and two Serb police officers were reported killed.
The reports indicated that Belgrade's attempt to overwhelm the ethnic Albanian separatists was continuing on Monday, despite a statement by Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to a visiting European Union (EU) delegation last week that the operation had halted.
The fighting continued to displace ethnic Albanian residents of the area, with many forced to hide and camp out in the woods in central Drenica.
