- Story Text: A Lebanese man suspected of being among the hijackers
in Tuesdays terror attacks on the United States has studied
aircraft construction at Hamburg's University of Applied
Sciences.
University president Hans-Gerhard Husung told
reporters on Monday (September 17) that Ziad Jarrah started
studying aircraft
construction in the winter term of 1997.
"He had his last exam in July 1999. We can confirm that
Mr. Jarrah regularly reported back until the summer term of
this year," Husung said.
Student Michael Gotzmann who used to study with Jarrah
told reporters that "one day we were studying together and in
the middle of the term he asked me, Michael, would you be sad
if I ended my studies here and moved to the States?"
Last week, Germany's Federal Prosecution Office said three
of the 19 suicide hijackers lived in Hamburg for a time and at
least two of them studied electronics at the city's Technical
University (TU).
German prosecutors have said they have found no link
between the possible suspects and Osama bin Laden, the
Saudi-born militant Islamic millionaire leading figures in the
United States have singled out as the main suspect.
