- Story Text: An Iraqi delegation has handed out 25,000 United
States dollars to Palestinian families who lost their houses
during Israel's military offensive in the Jenin refugee camp
in April.
Thirty three Palestinian families whose houses were
destroyed in April during a ten-day siege of a refugee camp in
the West Bank town of Jenin by Israeli soldiers were granted
25.000 United States dollars each by the Iraqi authorities and
picked up their cheques on Tuesday (August 20).
"Long Live Saddam" chanted an elderly man holding an
envelope with money.
The siege of a refugee camp in Jenin claimed the lives of
23 Israeli soldiers and about 50 Palestinians.
About 100 houses were destroyed.
It was not the first distribution of money from Iraqi
President Saddam Hussein's regime to the Palestinians.
Last month, also in Jenin, money was distributed to
families whose members were killed by Israelis, including
families of several suicide-bomber.
Saddam Hussein is an undisputed hero in the Palestinian
territories.
When Israeli troops occupied Palestinian territories in
March, the Iraqi leader announced that he is cutting off Iraqi
oil exports until Israel withdraws from the Palestinian
territories.
