- Story Text: 'Good Friday' ceremony at the Church of nativity.
Many worshipers participated in a 'Good Friday'
ceremony on Friday (March 25, 2005) at the church of Nativity in
West Bank city of Bethlehem.
Good Friday is the Friday before Easter Sunday (March
27), and is the day the Christians observe as the day of
Christ's crucifixion.
The ceremony at the church of Nativity included
singing, praying and carrying a sculpture of Jesus on the
cross.
The worshipers taking part in the ceremony watched as
the priests prayed, and kissed the legs of the Jesus
sculpture as it was put on the podium.
Many worshippers make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem and
The Church of Nativity, where it is believed Jesus was
born, in the West Bank city of Bethlehem to mark Jesus'
death and his Resurrection which is celebrated on Easter
Sunday.
Since early morning, processions of pilgrims visiting
the holy places started to take place, and the ceremony at
the church of nativity is one of the most interesting, with
pilgrims from all over the world arriving to take part in
it.
