Story Text: Canadian Armed Forces paid tribute to soldiers killed in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in a sunset ceremony in Vimy on Saturday (April 8), ahead of centenary commemorations on Sunday (April 9).
More than 3,500 Canadian soldiers were killed in the hard-fought battle against three divisions of the German Sixth Army in their attempt to capture the ridge in 1917.
The forces that participated in the sunset tribute represented the four battalions that fought in Vimy.
Some 25,000 people are expected to attend Sunday's ceremony, with French President Francois Hollande and Canadian Prime Minister Justine Trudeau participating in the commemorations.
