Those who wanted to leave their country have already done so, and others are trying to cling to life inside. At this stage, we are not expecting a new migrant wave. That is not the situation there. But of course, there can be a big massacre or another unknown attack. Turkey will always do whatever it can, with its "open door" policy to help the people in Syria to survive." TURKISH RED CRESCENT OFFICIALS GAS MASK AND PROTECTIVE SUIT (SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) PRESIDENT OF TURKISH RED CRESCENT, KEREM KINIK, SAYING: "For example today, the second convoy organised to evacuate in total 30,000 people from the al Waer district of Homs will be departing. Our teams are preparing a new camp for them in Jarablus now, and preparing the area. About 1,500 people had previously arrived and an additional 1,500-2,000 will be coming from Homs' Waer region now." VARIOUS OF GAS MASK AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHES (SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) PRESIDENT OF TURKISH RED CRESCENT, KEREM KINIK, SAYING: "We are taking protective gas masks, filters and personal protectors for 50 personnel in stage one. Later, decontamination kits and solutions will go as well. These are on the way, and will be delivered namely to search and rescue teams and medical personnel inside (Syria). This is because when a chemical attack of this sort takes place, the people in contact with the victims are in danger firstly. Therefore, this is emergency equipment aimed at protecting them." - Story Text:The Turkish Red Crescent does not expect a fresh wave of Syrian refugees to head for Turkey after the chemical attack in the northwestern province of Idlib earlier this week, the humanitarian organisation's head, Kerem Kinik, said on Saturday (April 8).
Kinik also told Reuters that a new refugee camp was being prepared in Jarablus, the Syrian border town that Turkey-backed fighters retook from the Islamic State militants last year.
The Turkish Red Crescent has plans to train rescue workers and others on how to protect themselves in the event of similar attacks in the future.
At least 70 people, including children, were killed in a poison gas attack in rebel-held northwest Syria on Tuesday (April 4). Both Washington and Ankara blame the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Syria denies it carried out the attack. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
