- Story Text: Georgia continues its campaign to prevent the spreading of a deadly bird flu virus into its territory. Tough sanitary regulations have been introduced at all the regions bordering Turkey and especially at the border-crossing points. At Vale border crossing, 235km from the capital Tbilisi, men in protective suits continued to spray disinfectants on cars crossing into Georgia from Turkey. Veterinary experts have travelled to a district close to the border with Turkey to examine migrant birds and poultry. Health Minister, Lado Chipashvili, told reporters it is vital that the general public help the campaign to protect Georgia. "The timely campaign launched by us has already yelled positive results, I mean, the population in Georgia is well informed about this dangerous disease. As a result people are more alert and so the chances for the spread of epidemics in our country are less," he said. In Georgia's Satskhe-Dzhavakheti region, health officials were carrying out local inspections of poultry stocks in villages and distributing leaflets to the local population about the threat of bird flu and steps to take if suspected cases are found among poultry stocks.
