- Story Text: The red carpet for the 69th annual Golden Globe awards was rolled out on Friday (January 13), two days before the celebrity-packed event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
While the iconic signage awaited placement around what will become the red carpet catwalk, crews inside the hotel were busy putting the finishing touches on the ballroom and the show's stage.
Sunday's (January 15) show will be a who's who of Hollywood, with the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Meryl Streep all nominated and scheduled to attend. In addition to the nominees, an A-list group of presenters will be on hand, including Nicole Kidman and Madonna.
Despite all the stars, the show is pretty relaxed, said the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Dr. Aida Takla-O'Reilly.
"It's a party, a celebration. And everybody is just casual and there isn't that big hype that makes you nervous and people are milling around in the room and they're relaxed about it."
Although some celebs may be a little concerned about the host of the show - Ricky Gervais - who has attracted far more attention than the actual nominees. Last year as host, Gervais put many of Hollywood's biggest stars in the firing line with his jokes - so much so that Robert Downey Jr. commented on the show's "sinister undertones" while on stage.
But Takla-O'Reilly said she isn't worried about Gervais' comments this year.
"I have no trepidation what so ever. It's going to be what it's going to be. Everybody will be surprised and laughing and happy. I met him in when I was in Paris. He came and I met him, went to dinner with NBC together, and he's a charming man. He's elegant. He's sweet. So I totally trust what he's going to do."
This year's awards have silent film, "The Artist" leading the way with six nominations. Also Clooney will be a major player - with nominations for best actor for his role in "The Descendants" and a nod for his film "The Ides of March" as best drama. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
