- Story Text: Cheryl Cole, the singer, has formally requested a divorce from her husband Ashley, the England footballer, but insisted she will not ask for any of his money, according to reports.
Cole hopes the divorce will be completed before the start of the World Cup The X Factor judge, 26, filed papers at the High Court in London on Tuesday (May 25), her PR company confirmed. She is expected to ask for a quickie divorce which could be granted before Ashley's first World Cup match on June 12.
Contrary to speculation, she is not expected to ask for the couple's £6 million mansion in Surrey as she attempts to make a "clean break" and avoid distracting her husband from the tournament in South Africa.
Her divorce papers are said to cite the "unreasonable behaviour" of the Chelsea defender, 29, as the reason for the break-up.
Their marriage had been hit by reports of repeated philandering by Ashley, who is alleged to have slept with four other women while in a relationship with Cheryl, as well as sending explicit text messages to a fifth woman.
The couple, who married almost four years ago and did not sign a prenuptial agreement, are each estimated to be worth about £10 million.
