- Story Text: The bodies of an undetermined number of victims of Madrid's Spanair plane crash were taken to the capital's cemetery on Thursday (August 21) afternoon.
At least seven forensic vans escorted by police arrived at the Catholic cemetery.
Right behind the vans were cars with the victims' relatives.
Authorities in Madrid declined to confirm whether the bodies are to be buried in La Almudena cemetery.
Local media was reporting that the coffins will be temporarily placed in the cemetery's refrigerated rooms awaiting international or local transfer.
Grieving relatives and medical staff continued on Thursday at an improvised morgue, the identification process of the badly burned bodies of victims of Spain's worst aviation disaster since 1983.
The government said only 19 people of the 166 passengers and six crew aboard survived the MD-82 jet crash. The airline listed 157 passengers and 10 unnamed crew. A Spanair spokesman could not account for the discrepancy. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
