- Story Text: A monastery in the mountains of Bulgaria has not let the fact that it doesn't have any electricity stop it from broadcasting the first Orthodox radio station over the internet.
Ruen Monastery, named after the saint Ivan Rilski is hoping to spread Orthodox knowledge and preserve Bulgarian traditions through its 'Sion' radio. The programme will start with the national anthem at 08.30 every day, and will operate online for several hours during the day. But the hours are limited, as a continuous radio station would put too much pressure on the monastery's generator, the radio station's source of electricity.
The Father Superior of the monastery, Polikarp, said he wasn't concerned about the limitations of the energy supply. "Despite the lack of electricity we do not give up. We hope the things will settle and electricity will come here eventually. We have our strong belief and feel the support of our patron Saint Ivan Rilski," he said.
