- Story Text: Bayern Munich striker Franck Ribery is set to miss the Champions League final after UEFA rejected an appeal against a three-match European ban on Wednesday. (May 5) The German club said they would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), sport's highest tribunal, over the ruling which they described as harsh.
The Frenchman was dismissed before halftime in the first leg of the semi-final against Olympique Lyon for a studs-up challenge on Lisandro Lopez and Ribery has already served one match out of the three-game suspension.
"Unfortunately the Court did not follow our defence argument, we must say that loud and clear, they confirmed in principle the original ruling, that is a three games sanction, a three games ban", Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told reporters.
"I now take it and hope he also takes it that we will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne and appeal, we will keep on fighting."
UEFA said Bayern were within their rights to go to CAS.
"Given the outcome of the proceedings, Bayern Munich and the player have the right to lodge an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport," said the statement.
A UEFA spokesman said appeals could be launched at CAS for bans lasting for two matches or more.
