- Story Text: President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will return home after more than a month in France where he had a stomach surgery for an ulcer. Bouteflika will also on Saturday sign the text of the 2006 budget which has been approved by the parliament.
Bouteflika, 68, who was re-elected last year for a second five-year term, is seen as a symbol of stability having led his country out of a civil war that lasted more than a decade.
About 150,000 people were killed in Algeria's civil war pitting security forces against Islamic rebels. It erupted after authorities scrapped elections in 1992 which an Islamic party was set to win.
Sporadic violence persists but Bouteflika won overwhelming public support in a September referendum for his initiative to grant a partial amnesty for hundreds of Muslim militants.
Bouteflika had first been taken to an Algiers hospital suffering from gastro-intestinal bleeding before being flown to France. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
