- Story Text: A New shipping line linking Algeria and Ghana was officially inaugurated on Friday(Feb 17) on board a ship of the line, S.S. Ibn-Sina, in Ghana's Tema Harbour.
The African Coastal Service, serving all the nations along Africa's western coast, has been in actual operation since late December.
Mr. Maouche Mohammed, director of the Algerian National Shipping Line, which created the service, said the development of better economic and commercial exchanges contributed to better understanding between men and nations.
He said the new line, an implementation of various recommendations of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), put an end to the use of third-party shippers, thus ending damage and loss, long storage and the increase in prices that hampered the national economic development of African nations.
Guests at the inaugural ceremony were given a tour of the 4,500-ton Ibn-Sina, designed to carry out monthly service in the line.
