- Story Text: Traditionally, the Muslim fast of Ramadan is preceded with a 'night of doubt'. But this year for the first time. Algerian Muslims began Ramadan with a 'night of prayer' following an addict by Algeria's Ministry of Religious Affairs.
During the month-long period of Ramadan, devout Muslims may neither eat nor drink between sunrise and sunset. In Islam this fasting period is sacred because 'this is the month the Koran was sent down as guidance for the people.'
