- Story Text: Bosnian Serb snipers and shelling killed two people and wounded at least nine others, including five children, in Sarajevo on Tuesday, witnesses and health ministry officials said.
Three children were seriously injured when mortar bombs slammed into a residential district north of the city centre early on Tuesday evening.
"Four shells landed around our building and my son was hit by shrapnel in the head and back," said 35-year old Zarifa Puris as she stood in a trauma clinic corridor with her blouse soaked in the boy's blood.
"He was playing in the garden below the house. I jumped over another boy to get to him. I could see the boy's brains on the pavement so I suppose he is dead by now." Bosnian ministry of health officials said sniper fire killed a 24-year old woman and wounded two other civilians on Tuesday. One man was killed by a shell which landed near a city cafe.
The Bosnian government says Serb forces have killed thousands of civilians during their 39-month siege.
