- Story Text: Hundreds of people gather on the Thai-Myanmar border for a candlelight vigil to mark a month since a bloody crackdown on pro-democracy protests in Myanmar.
Hundreds of people held candles and prayed at dusk on Friday (October 26) at a clinic in the north-western Thai town of Mae Sot, remembering those killed in last month's crackdown in neighbouring Myanmar.
They gathered at the Mae Tao clinic and observed a minute's silence.
Myanmar state media say ten people died when troops ended pro-democracy protests led by Buddhist monks.Western governments say the real toll is likely to be much higher.
Buddhists, Catholics and Muslims also took part in a multi-denominational religious ceremony at the clinic, which was founded almost 20 years ago by doctor Cynthia Muang to provide free healthcare to refugees, migrants and the poor.
During the vigil, people called on the ruling junta to stop using violence against its people and revert to democracy. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
