- Story Text: Comic strip aficionados from around the world are honing in on the central gallery of Peru's national library for the inaugural "Mundo Viñeta" festival this week (November 11).
Organized by local chapters of Alliance Francaise and the Goethe Institute, along with the Swiss Embassy, Spanish Cultural Center, and the National Library in Lima, the international comic book festival showcases over 7,000 pieces.
Satirical cartoonists and writers from France, Switzerland, Spain, Germany and Peru, are participating in the festival, profiling the development of cartoons from their early beginnings to the present, from each country.
Comic strip lovers are also getting an opportunity to enjoy talks and participate in workshops with well-known authors in the comic book world, like Tom Tirabosco from Switzerland:
"Comics have today become adult, they are no longer little stories we read or are told as children, now they are often complex stories that tell of our age, like cinema or literature," Tirabosco said.
Spain's Javier Olivares, and Germany's Flix are also on hand giving workshops discussing the origins of comics and their individual work, as well as Peru's Javier Florez del Ãguila, Juan Acevedo y Luis Baldoceda, and France's Fabien Vehlmann:
"There is clearly a predominance of Manga (comic books of Japanese origin) in comics worldwide which are invading countries in a good way as there are Japanese works of art... but also less positively in that there is a kind of stereotype in design and narration... so what I hope is that each country can preserve their uniqueness, their way of writing stories,"
says Vehlmann.
