- Story Text: Tripoli residents on Thursday (September 1) visited ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi's compound on the anniversary of the 1969 Libyan revolution when he seized power.
Anti-Gaddafi forces overran his fortified Bab al-Aziziya compound in tripoli on August 23 and trashed the symbols of his rule.
Now people come to to take away souvenirs and to photograph the buildings which represent the heart of Gaddafi's power.
Haleem Gragi came to the compound to look around on the 42 anniversary of Gaddafi's coup which toppled the Libyan monarchy.
She expressed satisfaction at the fall of Gaddafi, whom she termed an "oppressor" and said this year's six-month fight to oust him, known as the February 17 revolution, should be celebrated.
"Of course today we came here because we'd like to see the oppressor's house and celebrate on the same day, the first of September, the day he did his coup against the king. We'd like to celebrate the victory of the seventeenth of February revolution," Grari said.
Abdul Raman Mohammed said the September 1 anniversary of Gaddafi's al-Fateh coup had lost meaning now that Gaddafi was on the run. He added that he had always known that Gaddafi was a criminal and insane.
"This al Fateh day is nonsense and meaningless. God has now taken everything from him (Gaddafi). He doesn't have anything now. He's not normal person, he's criminal and infidel. Ever since I was born what I know about this person is that he's not normal and he's not sane," Mohammed said.
Gaddafi's whereabouts have not been generally known since his foes seized his Tripoli compound. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
