- Story Text: It's an innovative way of reaching out to tourists. And it's larger than life. A Croatian adventurist has spelled out the word 'Welcome' using GPS coordinates creating the world's largest greeting seen via Google Earth.
Daniel Lacko finished his project 'Welcome' in the picturesque Adriatic town of Dubrovnik.
He had travelled 2,500 kilometres in 62 days by bike, by kayak and on foot.
"The basic idea of the project was - besides sending literally the biggest welcome message in the world - to get a special personal experience by this unusual way of getting around and to travel through Croatia without the help of motor vehicles. That means on foot, by kayak, on bicycle and other means of transport. The idea was also simply to promote Croatia as ideal destination for adventures forms of tourism and active tourism," Lacko said.
As Lacko and his team travelled from Savudrija in Istria to the Dalmatian coast they recorded their location by GPS device and "wrote down" the biggest Welcome sign that is visible via Google Earth.
And for the visitor unsure as to whether Croatia has enough to offer, Lacko's pinpoints that cover eight national parks, three nature parks, four protected landscapes, special geomorphologic reserves, six rivers and eleven mountain tops should be at least a start. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
