- Story Text: Thirty five contestants took part in the finals of the first ever Yoshinoya Beef Gyuodn (rice bowl) Eating Contest in Manila on Saturday (March 3).
The goal of the competition is to eat as many beef bowls as possible in 20 minutes.
Art Paul Sison won the contest after eating eight and a half bowls of beef with rice in 20 minutes.
Sison, a member of a boy band in Manila, entered the eating contest to win back a girlfriend.
He said he had weighed 310 pounds 11 months previously but had lost 95 pounds.
Sison gave a key to his success in the competition when he said: "When you practise eating, eating and eating your stomach expands and the capacity becomes big." said Art Paul Sison.
A contest nurse was called to check Art Paul Sison's blood pressure after the contest because he was suffering from stomach cramps. Her diagnosis was that he had eaten too much.
Sison hopes his victory in the eating contest might encourage his ex-girlfriend to return to him. He still has no plans on how to spend the 50,000 peso (1040 United States dollar) prize he received for his win.
Saturday marks the fifth anniversary of the Japanese fast food chain Yoshinoya was named, setting up business in the Philippines. The company after wich the eating contest was named is the oldest and largest Japanese fast food chains in the world. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
