- Story Text: Customers at one of the largest Apple distributors in Manila paid tribute to former CEO Steve Jobs on Friday (October 7) by writing their farewells on a poster with Jobs's face fronting the shop.
Each message showed their appreciation, with a few displaying Jobs's famous quotes.
Twenty-six-year old Apple customer Anna Villegas said Jobs was an inspiration.
"He is an icon, and he had given a lot of things to humanity. Especially right now, he had opened a lot of dreams for everyone. And he's just something people would like to be when they grow up, and he's such a good, a gift. Again, a blessing," she said.
Store employees wore black armbands to remember Jobs, and the loud music that usually plays from the store iTunes list was shut off.
Power Mac Centre Marketing Manager Joey Alvarez said he felt Jobs's death was both a tragedy and a temporary boost to business.
"It's affected the Filipinos, I think. In terms of the business, I think it's still good. I actually think that people might start buying more with the passing just to commemorate his life," he said.
The 56-year old co-founder of Apple died on Wednesday (October 5) after a years-long battle with pancreatic cancer and other illnesses.
His death sparked a wave of sympathies from across the world, from President Barack Obama to Apple users who say Jobs had changed their lives and inspired them. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
