- Story Text: Demonstration takes place in Baghdad.
Hundreds of chanting Iraqis have marched toward
the Coalition headquarters in Baghdad to demand land they
lost during the war. In a march through central
Baghdad on Thursday
(February 19), they chanted "yes to freedom" and carried
banners demanding land to build new houses which were
destroyed during the war.
The protesters said they were now homeless and asked
the U.S.-led Coalition for support.
Referring to the Coalition, the head of the al-Amin
union representing the victims of war, Mohammed Hamed Aziz
said "we demand that they give land to these families,
relatives of political prisoners, martyrs and those who
were killed and found in mass graves."
At the same time, the protesters praised U.S.
president George W. Bush, carrying banners thanking him for
"giving us freedom".
