- Story Text: A week long conference for action against apartheid opened in Lages, capital of Nigeria. Attending the conference were Heads of States and Governments, Foreign Ministers, Members of the Liberation Movements and other participants from different parts of the world. The Secretary General of U.N Kurt Waldheim opened the conference by stressing the evils of apartheid and also condemns the racist regime of Ian Smith and John Foster. Also addressing the conference of about two thousand delegates and guests is the Nigeria Head of State, Lt. General Olusegun Obasanjo. He said that his government is totally committed to the fight against apartheid especially in Southern Africa. President Kaunda who spoke with great emotion appealed to the world to force the racist governments to put an end to apartheid. Important delegates attending the conference include Andrew Young, U.S. representative at the U.N., OAU Secretary General, Congressman Charles Diggs of the US, Robert Mogabe and Joshua Nkom??? of the Patriotic Front.
