- Story Text: An exhibition with 200 works from the New York
Museum of Modern Art has opened in Berlin.
The world-famous MoMA, New York's Museum of Modern
Art, opened in Berlin on Friday (February 20) to much
anticipation
and rave reviews. More than 500 modern art fans were
already queueing when the doors opened. It is the first
time more than
200 paintings and sculptures have left their home in
Manhattan to be exhibited in one place.
The collection will be in Berlin for seven months, the
amount of time it will take to renovate the Museums
building on
New York's West 53rd Street.
Paul Cezanne, Salvador Dali, Edward Hopper, Rene
Magritte, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso,
Jackson Pollock and
Vincent Van Gogh are just some of the names visitors will
see at the show.
Organizers are hoping to attract 700,000 visitors and
bring millions of Euros into the city this summer. They
need this
amount to cover the costs of exporting such a tight
security show. The exhibition, which cost 8.5 million
Euros, will be open
to the public until September 19, 2004.
