- Story Text: Work has begun on a 67 million cedis (25 million sterling) new reservoir project in Weija, Ghana. It replaces a dam near Accra that was washed away by floods in 1968.
The new project is a key factor in planning one of Ghana's chief industrial regions. Colonel Bob Kotei, Ghana's Commissioner for Works and Housing, has said that the reservoir will provide water for the rapidly growing Accra-Tema Area. It should serve the needs of the area until the year 2,000.
Construction is being supervised by an Italian firm. Part of the financing comes from the World Bank, the Canadian Development Agency and the African Development Bank.
