- Story Text: The Colombia soccer squad have been preparing for their
World Cup qualifying match against Argentina.
Colombia's national soccer team trained at the "Nemesio
Camacho El Campin" stadium in Bogota on Tuesday (June 27)
ahead of their World Cup qualifier against Argentina on
Thursday (June 29) to be played at home.
The team and its coach, Luis Augusto "El Chiqui" Garcia,
held a news conference on Wednesday (June 28) in which it
appeared he was quite confident of his team's abilities.
"I think we have been training very well. The majority of
us are familiar with the Argentine players. We know who we are
playing against. We know how we must play. In the last few
days we have been playing very well. The only thing that is
left to do now is to transmit this onto the playing field. We
also need to have a winner's attitude because it is a game to
be won and we must give trouble to Argentina," said Ivan
Ramiro Cordoba, the team's defender.
The Colombian national team won its previous game against
Venezuela 3-0 which was also played at home.
The Colombian team is currently in fifth place in the
World Cup qualifying group with five points, while Argentina
are in first with nine points.
There are in total 18 games to be played and this is only
the fourth.
The World Cup, to be played in the year 2002 will take
place in Japan and in South Korea.
