- Story Text: Tanya Sarne's Ghost label has brought its trademark
understated elegance to London Fashion Week, but the
show was not without its quirky touches.
Drummer boys and sixties pop art were among the diverse
influences in the Ghost Spring/Summer collection at London
Fashion Week on Sunday (September 15).
The label's founder, Tanya Sarne, explained the
collection's inspiration.
"We've taken quite a lot of inspiration from the sixties,
from pop art, op art, Penelope Tree, Twiggy, that sort of
thing." she said. "It's also quite boyish -- girls as boys,
drum majorettes and tomboys."
Bright pinks and yellows were splashed across jumpsuits
and micro-mini skirts. Tiny floral dresses and barely-there
shorts showed the youthful, vivacious side of the label.
But the long, lean silhouette for which Ghost has become
known was still the key shape of the collection. Floaty
bias-cut dresses and fluid trouser suits came in shades of
pink, grey and pale green.
The show ended with a series of handstitched, embroidered
dresses all in white. The look was ethereal yet wearable.
The Ghost label was launched by former model Tanya Sarne
in 1984 and was recently revamped under Sarne's new designer
Amy Roberts. Since moving into retail in the late 90s there
are now nine Ghost stores where jewellery and homeware are
also sold. The label also produces ranges of perfume and
sunglasses.
Ghost is worn by singer Britney Spears and actresses Halle
Berry, Heather Graham and Chloe Sevigny.
