Popular Argentine singer and former Soda Stereo bandleader Gustavo Cerati remains in stable but "delicate" condition after undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on
his brain doctors said Tuesday (May 18).
"A problem arose. There was a stroke and they had to relieve the pressure," said hospital spokesperson Adolfredo Saez. "He has just come out of the operating room."
"It is too early to give a prognosis for his recovery," said Saez. "The first seventy two hours are critical, obviously and we hope to give you more information then."
The 50-year-old musician was hospitalized after performing in Caracas on Sunday (May 19) night when he suffered a transient ischemic attack, or 'mini stroke'.
Cerati is recovering in the Trinity Medical Centre in Caracas.
A transient ischemic attack is characterized by a change of blood supply to a part of the brain.
If symptoms persist over a period of more than 24 hours it can be categorized as a stroke. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
