- Story Text: U.S. soldiers conduct two day operation in search of
insurgents in the Iraqi town of Rawa.
U.S. troops conducted a second day of house-to-house
searches in the Iraqi town of Rawah, close to the Syrian
border on Sunday (December 21).
Soldiers manning checkpoints stopped cars from entering
the town while U.S. military vehicles and tanks took
position at the entrance to Rawah and blocked the main road
with barbed-wire barricades.
Thirty people were detained in the operation and a
number of weapons, including machine-guns, RPG's, rockets
and AK-47 were seized.
"Those individuals which we have detained have
professed to be either Mujahideen or individuals that have
been responsible for supplying the money and the weapons to
not only foreign fighters but anybody who is trying to
attack Iraqis and coalition forces," said U.S. Lieutenant
Kievnnaar.
Residents said some former Ba'ath party members were
among those arrested.
