Summary:December 3 1941, a little under five months since Germany attacked the USSR, the Red Army had at last halted the advance of the invading armies, and were starting to hit back. In this battle, fifty miles south of Moscow, Soviet troops were on the offensive in winter conditions and for the first time, the Nazi war machine was proving unequal to its task. The bitter cold and long supply lines were taking their toll.
