- Story Text: Alan Sugar, chairman of the troubled north London club announced the surprise news in London on Monday (December 22) The pair split acrimoniously at the end of a highly successful 1995 season in which Klinsmann guided Spurs to the FA Cup semi-final.
Klinsmann left Spurs on bad terms after he took up a
"get out clause" to leave the team after the first season of a two-year deal.
Klinsmann faces a baptism of fire since his first game will be against Premiership leaders and championship favourites Manchester United on January 10.
Klinsmann has had a miserable time since moving to Italian serie A side Sampdoria.
His depression has been matched only by the depths to which the English side have sunk as they have fallen into the bottom three and the relegation zone of the English Premiership.
It was a high scoring season in which he was Klinsmann, who joined Italian serie A club Sampdoria from German champions Bayern Munich at the end of last season, played at premier league Tottenham for one season until May 1995.
Klinsmann, who had previously played for Italy's Inter Milan and French first division Monaco, scored 29 goals in English premier league and cup games and was named Footballer of the Year before an acrimonious parting from Tottenham. He is still a major member of the German World Cup squad in France after leading the team to victory in the Euro 96 tournament.
Tottenham have struggled this season and are now 18th in the 20-strong premier league.
"Subject to him passing a quick medical this morning down at the local hospital in the city, he's back to help us out for the rest of the season," said Sugar. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
