- Story Text: Russia's fourth open championship of hot air ballooning has finished with a win by Ukranian Sergei Belorusov.
Twenty two hot air balloons participated in the championship which finished on Friday (June 12) in the town of Velikiye Luki, 450 km west of Moscow.
Hot air ballooning is a sport yet to become popular in Russia. The Federation of Balloonists was founded only eight years ago and has held three open championships since then.
The foreign pilots who come to Russia often complain about impassable terrain, bad roads, lack of proper maps and communications.Russian pilots in their turn rarely go to the big international competitions because they lack the expertise necessary to qualify for them.
