- Story Text: INTRO: The popular children's building brick Lego will open its own theme park in Windsor on Friday and is already sold out for the first few days.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Britain opens its newest theme park to the public on Friday (March 29) and is already fully booked for the first few days after a rush for tickets.
The 85-million (U.S. dollar) Legoland at Windsor, Berkshire, was officially opened by thousands of schoolchildren on Thursday (March 28) in a ceremony free from official speeches or celebrities.
The Danish toy giant remained true to its word that children would be "king" at the 150-acre attraction, which is on the site of the former Windsor Safari Park.
Lego president Kjeld Krik Christiansen, grandson of the company's founder, took no part in opening the 17 rides, 21 attractions and five live shows.
Marketing manager Michael Moore said: "We have emptied every primary school in Windsor for today's official opening because we wanted children to open the park, which is, after all, aimed at children." The company, which expects 1.4 million visitors to Legoland in its first year said it was surprised that so many tickets have already been sold to families in France and Germany.
The Windsor Park is the first Legoland outside Denmark but the firm is building another one in San Diego, United States, and plans to spend 1.3 billion (U.S. dollars) on a further 14 parks worldwide by the year 2050.
