- Story Text: INTRO: Chinese Premier Li Peng has arrived in Moscow for a three-day visit to Russia that officials said marked the inauguration of regular meetings between the prime ministers of the neighbouring nuclear powers.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- The Chinese Prime Minister, Li Peng, arrived in Moscow on Thursday (December 26).
Diplomats said the main focus of Li's trip would be to boost economic links and pave the way for a presidential summit next year.
Li could become the first foreign leader to meet Russian President Boris Yeltsin since his return to work on Monday after heart surgery. This could then set the stage for a visit to Moscow by Chinese President and Communist Party chief Jiang Zemin in 1997.
Li was accompanied by Vice Premier Li Lanqing and Minister of the State Planning Commission Chen Jinhua, as well several deputy ministers and officials in charge of China's nuclear and aviation industries -- sectors of great potential cooperation with Russia.
