SYNOPSIS: Delegates arrive for the meeting of the Arab League Economic Council in Cairo this week. Speakers included Arab League General Secretary Mahmoud Riad who warned that the battle against Israel was just starting.
All the member states of the Arab league except Libya were represented at the meeting whose main aim was to consider the implementation of measures against Israel although they also heard a plea for special treatment of oil supplies to African countries. The delegates heard an appeal from the Egyptian Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance and Economy for the drafting of immediate and long term plans to finance the fight against Israel until all occupied territories were liberated. He said long term plans should include a unified economic strategy for the Arab countries.
Mr. Riad told the delegates in an open session that the battle against Israel had only just started. He accused Israel of continuing its policy of aggression and deception. After the open session the League Council also held a close meeting at which it divided into two committees -- one dealing with Arab-African cooperation and the other with the fight against Israel.
