- Story Text: Representatives of the ten member states of the Arab League met in Cairo on Wednesday (20 June) to consider blacklisting more than 100 foreign firs suspected of dealing with Israel.
The session will last for ten days. The Arab Boycott officials were expected to lift the ban on a number of European and other firms which had produced documents proving that they had ceased operations in Israel.
Before the conference began, its director, Mr. El Mahdi Mahgoub called for a one-minute silence in honour of the Palestinians who lost their lives during the recent trouble in Lebanon.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Mahgoub outlined the aims of the conference in his opening address. At its session last November, the conference took the blacklist more than twenty British, French , German, Spanish, Italian, Swiss and Swedish firms which had activities with Israel. The session will discus ways to tighten the Arab economic blockade to stop Israeli goods getting through occupied territory into Arab countries.
