- Story Text: For one World Cup family, Friday's big match between South Korea and Portugal will have a special meaning; father will be commentating live for major local broadcaster MBC while his son should be on the pitch looking for goals to get the co-hosts a place in the next round.
Following in his father's footsteps, Cha Doo-ri has made South Korea's team for the World Cup finals but time will tell if he too will become a famous commentator, for now the focus is on beating Portugal.
Coach Guus Hiddink has forecast a South Korean World Cup dynasty of sorts praising 22-year-old Cha Doo-ri as being a possible equal to his father, Cha Bum-kun.
Cha-bum scored 98 goals in 308 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1980s. He also captained South Korea at the 1986 World Cup finals and was head coach in France '98, but was fired after they were beaten 5-0 by a Dutch side - coached by Hiddink.
Doo-ri is just a little taller than his Dad, and has a similar playing style, an explosive attacker with plenty of power and speed.
The two men still train together regularly, although the older man has a reputiation for being tough on his son during match commentary. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
