- Story Text: Lokomotiv Moscow arrived in Turkey ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray confident Turkish security measures would guarantee their safety in the wake of the Moscow theatre tragedy Lokomotiv Moscow arrived in Turkey on Tuesday for their UEFA Champions League clash with Galatasaray mourning the victims of the theatre ordeal but saying they were confident Turkish security measures would guarantee the safety of their players.
UEFA on Monday cancelled a Tuesday Champions League clash between Spartak Moscow and Swiss Champions FC Basel as a mark of respect for those killed in the theatre siege in the Russian capital.
Istanbul has been the scene of a series of pro-Chechen hostage-taking incidents in recent years.
The Lokomotiv players arrived in Turkey amid tight security, with police cordons at Istanbuls Ataturk airport and a large security escort into the city.
Russias defence minister in May accused Turkey of indulgence towards Chechen extremists after a Chechen gunman took 13 people hostage at an Istanbul hotel.
Turkey, which hosts a substantial number of exiled Chechens and their Turkish sympathisers, denies any official support for the Muslim rebels.
Turkish champions Galatasaray host Lokomotiv Moscow on Tuesday knowing a defeat in Istanbul could dash hopes of a berth in the second group stage of the tournament.
Coach Fatih Terim is likely to start with the Brazilian Christian and Bosnia's Elvir Baljic, who have combined well as a strike force in recent games, ahead of Turkish World Cup stars Hasan Sas and Arif Erdem.
Senegalese defender Adama Sarr, whose goal in Moscow back in September brought Galatasaray's only victory in Group H, is likely to return from injury. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
