- Story Text: Cuba's internationally renowned baseball team defeated Japan's Chunichi Dragons 4-3, on Thursday (November 07) in the second of two exhibition games that marked 100 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Cubans put the first scores on the board with a pair of runs in the the first inning.
The game tied up in the fifth and sixth innings and Cuba broke through in the seventh.
By the eighth inning, the Cuban team led 4-2, and though the Dragons attempted to catch up, they only managed one other point.
Japan's Thursday loss followed a 14-2 defeat to Cuba on Wednesday (November 06).
This was the third exhibition series that Cuba and Japan have held in the two countries' baseball histories. The first took place in 1955 when the Tokyo Giants lost two games and won one against the Cuban Sugar Kings. In 1988, the Tokyo Carps returned to Cuba, where they were shut-out in a six-game series.
Wednesday's and Thursday's exhibition games were also a warm-up for the Intercontinental Cup Baseball Tournament which began on Friday (November 08). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
