- Story Text: Kids have queued up in Washington for hours to see the hotly-anticipated Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets movie, the second in the Harry Potter series, on opening day.
Early reviews from young movie-goers were positive.
On the day of its U.S. premier, kids queued up to buy tickets for the new Harry Potter film.
The film opened around the U.S. on Friday (November 15) with cinemas conjuring up more than $ 3 million (USD) in advance sales.
The new movie follows last year's blockbuster Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone which, behind Titanic, became the second best-selling film of all time, grossing $ 650 (USD) million in box office sales worldwide.
The little fans were full of praise about the new movie.
"I thought it was really good," said one girl.
And the verdict was that this movie is much better.
"The first movie was a little bit boring at times. But this kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time," said one little Potter fan.
And another fan, even sporting Harry Potter's famous glasses, said: "I like it a lot better than the first one.
Because there were more special effects and creatures."
And the older Potter fans were as much delighted by the movie.
"Well. I've read all the books. I like this movie better.
Because it was really- the ending is so exciting and so complex and the characters are so great. Like there are some new characters in this one- like there is the Dobby character that doesn't appear in the first book and Lucius Malfoy. But they're just- it's fantastic- I mean they're the best books I've ever read you know and I'm like over 50. They're just absolutely fabulous. So, I'm waiting for the next one to come out. I thought the movie was really good."
The Philosopher's Stone held the three-day opening weekend record in the U.S. last year, netting $ 63 million (USD), before Spider-Man later took $ 78 million (USD).
Tickets for the hotly-anticipated Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets went on sale a month-and-a-half before the film opened.
JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels have sold more than 42 million copies in more than 40 countries worldwide.
In the U.S. and Canada, more than 17 million books have been bought by fans of the magical adventures. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
