- Story Text: French President Francois Hollande called on his Western partners on Tuesday (May 13) to help ensure legitimate presidential elections in Ukraine.
Speaking at a news conference during his visit to Georgia, Hollande said, addressing his Western allies: "What do we have to do today? We need to mobilise to ensure that the elections of May 25 in Ukraine take place, produce a result, and are legitimate, so that we give Ukraine an elected president who would be able to hold a dialogue as well as introduce the necessary constitutional reforms."
Ukraine scheduled presidential elections for May 25 and will to go ahead as planned despite referendums that were held by separatists in eastern Ukraine on Sunday (May 11).
European Union foreign ministers hinted on Monday (May 12) that any disruption of elections in Ukraine on May 25 could trigger new economic sanctions against Russia. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
