- Story Text: Even though the Brazilian team hasn't been dazzling, it seems to be doing its job well enough conquering not only a place in the quarter finals, but the hearts of Brazilian supporters around the world.
At Alzira Brandao street in Rio, area known as Alzirao, to the rhythm of samba drums, thousands united to cheer for Brazil as it makes its way to a sixth championship with a 3-0 victory over Ghana.
Striker Ronaldo, who scored in the fifth minute against Ghana, became the highest goalscorer in World Cup history to bring his tally to 15 goals in three tournaments.
With only one goal, Brazilian tension began to build up in many fans who bit their nails, hands, not to mention other more awkward ways to show anxiety.
Although Ghana created a series of scoring chances, they failed to capitalize. Despite Brazil's slightly timid performance, fans seemed to be satisfied with the team at halftime.
After Adriano scored in the final moments of the first half, partying became even more intense in the Alzirao.
Soccer fan Caio Saraiva, who's ability to control the ball approaches that of a professional player, made a small performance during the break to honor Brazilian players.
"The game is a show, Brazil will win this World Cup with Ronaldo's show, Ronaldo is a phenomenon," he said.
At half time, to everyone's surprise, doubles of two of Brazil's top players in Germany, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho Gaucho arrived to join fans in their celebration.
The last goal came as a bonus, only to contribute to the party that should extend throughout the entire afternoon.
Fans were satisfied with their team by the end of the match and had no complaints for Parreira (Brazilian coach). "Parreira is doing great, winning is what matters for sure!" said an unidentified supporter.
Another fan, Pado Martins, praised player Ronaldinho Gaucho for his exceptional performance during the match. "I loved the game, Brazil was great, did very well. Ronaldinho did everything he could and with strength Brazil, we'll get to the finals. Brazil Champion," he said.
For the next match, when Brazil should battle Spain or France for a place in the semi-finals, even more are expected to attend the Alzirao, that at every World Cup becomes more and more traditional. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
