- Story Text: The exiled Secretary-General of the ANC (African National Congress) in Zambia, Alfred Nzo, spoke out strongly on Monday (February 12) against any lifting of international sanctions on South Africa.
Nzo said that those within the international community who now expect the ANC to abandon its struggle, merely because of Nelson Mandela's release from prison, would meet with disappointment.
ANC leaders plan to meet later in the week to formulate an official response to Mandela's release and to re-evaluate ANC strategy. They will also decide whether to return to South Africa.
Some ANC leaders remain unconvinced by the policy of negotiation and are reluctant to give up their militant stance towards the apartheid regime. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
