- Story Text: The wax figure of actor Daniel Craig, who has been acclaimed for his performances as the suave secret agent James Bond including the latest Bond film, "Quantum of Solace," was unveiled in New York on Thursday (November 13.) The wax figure was made to coincide with Craig starring in his second Bond film which opens in the United States on Friday, November 14. Dressed in a replica of the black tuxedo Craig wore in "Quantum of Solace," the wax figure highlights Craig's acclaim in the coveted role which brings instant fame and fortune to every actor who plays it.
"I can definitely say that he is gorgeous. You can see by the eyes, his blue eyes are very piercing. Just regarding the suit, this is Tom Ford, this is an exact replica of what he wore on the bond film," said Rosemary del Prado, director of marketing at Madame Tussauds in New York.
Industry watchers are expecting Craig's next turn as Bond to earn big bucks at box offices and easily top his previous 007 film "Casino Royale." Craig, 40, appeared in smaller parts in films such as "Munich" and "Sylvia" before landing the role of the world's most famous fictional spy.
He is the first Bond figure to appear in New York's Madame Tussauds, which houses more than 200 wax figures.
"About four months ago we approached and sat down with Daniel Craig himself. It takes about three hours to make the figure and get all the accurate measurements, and as you can see I am quite short but this is his height and it's certainly what he looks like," said del Prado.
Craig has gained attention for playing a rougher, tougher and more emotional Bond and brings a larger physical build to the role than previous turns by actors such as Roger Moore, Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan.
"I'm not sure, maybe he might have his suit taken off by one of our guests, but right now he is still fully clothed," joked del Prado.
The 22nd official Bond film, "Quantum of Solace" debuted in London about two weeks ago, and took in a record-breaking 15.4 million pounds (GBP) (25 million U.S. dollars) on its opening weekend. So far, it has collected more than 160 million (USD) in over 60 international markets. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
