The thing that I think is great is Brian Burke and his staff decided to pick the people that would do the best job in each position and a lot of times when you hear about the NFL draft or the NHL draft, they pick the best players, not the right players. I think the really important part is who's going to care most about representing their country? And who's going to play the most as a team? The United States is doing that right now." REPORTERS (SOUNDBITE) (English) JIM CRAIG, GOALIE FOR THE 1980 U.S. HOCKEY TEAM THAT WON THE SO CALLED MIRACLE ON ICE GAME, WHEN THE U.S. BEAT THE HEAVILY FAVOURED RUSSIAN HOCKEY TEAM, SAYING: "I think every game is going to be a battle, I think from now on anybody can beat anyone. These are the best professional athletes in the world in the sport of ice hockey. They're just going to be able to compete on an every day basis so , there is no surprises. The team who plays best and has the best discipline, the best goal tending always seems to win." PERSON VIDEOTAPING CRAIG WITH A MINI VIDEO RECORDER MEDIA SPEAKING WITH CRAIG

- Story Text: Jim Craig, the goalie for the United States hockey team known as the "Miracle on Ice' after their win over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics, celebrated the 30th anniversary of that game Monday (February 22) in Vancouver.
Craig signed his name to a painting depicting that historic game after which he spoke to the media and offered his views of yesterday's U.S. win over Canada saying it brought back memories.
The United States, seeking its first hockey gold since the "Miracle on Ice" 30 years ago, defeated heavily favoured Canada on Sunday 5-3.
Jim Craig responded to recent news of U.S. team General Manager Brian Burke being second-guessed about the lack of experience on the team saying "Who's going to care most about representing their country? And who's going to play the most as a team? The United States is doing that right now."
When asked about the U.S chances for the rest of the games Craig said "I think every game is going to be a battle, I think from now on anybody can beat anyone."
During the famous U.S-Soviet Union semi-final matchup of 1980, Craig stopped 36 of 39 shots on goal as the U.S team won 4-3, in what is considered one of the biggest upsets in sports history. Two days later the U.S team beat Finland to capture the Olympic Gold medal.
The UNited States had not had beaten the Canadian team at the Olympics since 1960. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
